OMD Philippines Names Meryl Yap As Its New Client Service Director

This is how OMG CEO Nic Gabunada Jr. has encapsulated the character of newly-installed Client Service Director Meryl Francesca Yap.

Meryl Francesca Yap is no ordinary Pinay Media Planner. She is a Pinay Media Planner who has found her calling. Her passion for her career, nay, vocation, says it all.

However, Meryl is no driven Dragon Lady.

The 30-something proud and dedicated young mom to 9-year-old Miggy, knows where her priorities lie. She is a loving and dedicated mom first and foremost, a go-getting Client Service Director who will pull out all stops to make sure that OMD Philippines’ clients are well-taken-care of, and to add to the mix, she finds life space to squeeze in being one of OMD’s resident life-of-the-party personalities.

More than being the life of the party, Meryl Francesca Yap is also a very caring mom figure to her workmates at OMD. In a recent OMG outing to Taiwan, Meryl can be seen serving her staff, in a doting and motherly way. Something very telling of how down-to-earth she is: that Meryl doesn’t think twice about serving her OMG family.

It is no wonder, then, that many of Meryl’s colleagues love her fiercely. Upon her promotion, she was met with proud greetings from family and friends. Knowing that so many people support one’s success is very telling of a Pinay Media Planner’s character.

And yet this is not the whole picture of Meryl Francesca Yap.

Meryl Yap started out as a media trainee in Adformatix Selection, Inc., in the year 2005. She left in 2007, having worked her way up to become a Junior Media Planner. In this stint with Adformatix, she handled a major electronics brand, as well as a pharmaceutical/nutrition brand. She also participated in various new business acquisitions for the company.

It was also in 2007 that Meryl’s career life chapter with OMD began. She started as a media planner, handling a stock brokerage company, a bank, telecommunications companies, a car company, a major health and beauty store, among others. By the next year, she was promoted as Senior Media Planner, handling regional accounts such as a major credit card group, baby formula and milk brands, a health and beauty chain, a pharmaceutical company, a hair care and cosmetics company, etc. She also had the privilege of being part of the new business team being formed then.

In August 2009, she joined Smart’s Brand Equity Management team as an Assistant Brand Manager handling Smart Buddy and Talk N’ Text.

The stint outside OMD was short-lived, however, as she re-joined OMD in May 2010 as Business Unit Manager handling a powdered milk & dairy line, a major multinational chocolate brand, a cosmetics and hair care brand, a major high-end jeans brand, and a major Singaporean events service company.

Not even a year after, Meryl got promoted as Business Unit Director in January 2011, handling additional accounts, this time, major laundry care brands.

Just around a year and a half since her last promotion, Meryl Francesca Yap was named Client Service Director of OMD in June 2012.

As the Client Service Director of OMD, Meryl holds the following roles:

  • Process champion (Checkmate/ Vision)
  • Lead person in coordinating regional requirements
  • A “mission” to improve client satisfaction levels by working closely with Business Unit Directors and SBU Heads for strategic direction
  • Supporting management in the task of new business search. Meryl is part of the pitch team

Indeed, Meryl Yap is one awesome, well-rounded Pinay Media Planner, now Client Service Director. As you can see, she is not only a go-getting Media Planner-turned-Client Services Director, but she’s also a doting, dedicated mom. To top it all off, she is a fiercely loving friend who knows how to have fun and light up a room. All in all, this is one Pinay Media Planner that the industry should be proud of.
